Artist Statement
Winged Victory, with its sweeping angular extensions, owes its vitality to the Hellenistic sculpture called Nike of Samothrace. There is a certain tension and an implication that the Hellenistic sculpture is about to take off. My sculpture acts as a counterbalance from the feeling of an upward thrust with an equal dynamism that the movement might just as well be down. Like a drill or auger penetrating the earth.
Winged Victory includes a removable base. The bottom 18” of the sculpture easily slides into the slotted base.
