'Refuge' is a gleaming diagram of a volume, a skeleton of a natural form.
A seedpod. A symbol of protection, growth and propagation. A memory of life within.
Metal is treasure from the earth. Valuable. Ductile. Lustrous.
This lustre can give it a sense of inner life, of contained energy.
This contained energy is the starting point for our work.
We explore metal objects as artefacts, lost, truncated, containing memories, redolent.
This sculpture was exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in 2015 .

Korban + Flaubert have developed a sculpture practice over the last 20 years, exploring metal and motion in their Sydney workspace. They have backgrounds in architecture, design, art, psychology and metalwork with skills sparked and honed in Germany.
Korban and Flaubert love metal. They love its ductility, lustre and raw integrity. They work it into forms which capture movement and energy. The expressive potential of the travelling line is explored in works describing momentum and emotion.
Korban and Flaubert have shown sculpture in Australia, Italy and the U.S. They have exhibited internationally and are represented in design museum collections in Australia, the U.S. and Germany. Architects have commissioned public art and sculpture in a range of projects.
