About the art
Artist statement
Jean-Daniel Salvat is a French abstract artist based in Nîmes, France.
He attended the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts under the directorship of the famous artist Claude Viallat, known for his association with the Supports/Surfaces Group.
The artist employs a distinctive technique: painting on the reverse side of transparent vinyl, which is subsequently mounted on stretchers.
This process effectively eliminates any tactile signs from the artwork. There's no discernible pictorial matter left; only a reflective surface remains.
This work is from a series titled "Virtuous Circles" which explores the concept of a "virtuous circle," a positive feedback loop that amplifies desirable effects.
It involves cause-and-effect relationships that loop back into themselves, creating a self-reinforcing and improving system. This concept is used to illustrate philosophical ideas within Salvat's work.
