About the art
Artist statement
Jean-Pierre Vielfaure was a French postwar and contemporary painter who was born in 1930 in Algeria. He died in April 2015 at the age of 84 in Ivry-sur-Seine.
He left Algeria in 1938 with his parents and from the age of 12 he had learnt to draw, he was a very interesting autodidact. His father died in 1948 and he has to take care of the family. He put a lot of effort and worked hard on his first exhibition that was organised in 1950. Following his first success he had a second exhibition in 1951 and moved in 1952 to Montmartre, the artistic heart of France and perhaps the whole of Europe.
In his long life, as an artist he exhibited in New York, Paris, Brussels, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Ibiza, Tokyo, Kyoto and many cities in France. You can find his pieces in the National art museum in Paris, the Centre of contemporary art in Paris, the Royal museum of Modern Art in Brussels, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the São Paulo Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum in Alger, in Oxford University, etc...
