About the art
Artist statement
My work is highly textural and often incorporates found natural and artificial materials such as sand, plaster, concrete, dirt, plant fibers and more. I enjoy the contrast between these rough materials and applying them to refined often vintage textiles. Because I often use one of a kind textiles, I like to experiment with texture mixtures on paper prior to applying them to 'canvas'. In doing this research I gained an appreciation for the way in which my mixtures reacted to the paper and entire new series was born. This piece is part of a larger body of work called Horizons. The title, Horizons, has an obvious association with the landscape or seascape horizon however these works are also about the conceptual horizon and the ability that humans have to expand our intellectual capacity.
