Based in: Melbourne
Jo Moloney is a Melbourne based artist influenced by mid-century geometric abstraction. Her delicately worked paintings incorporate hard-edged forms that reflect her passion for abstract compositions of the 1950-70s. Her colour palette is a fusion of contemporary and mid-century trends, which evolve across series of works.
Her paintings obliquely reference fleeting phenomena. Drifting, levelling, falling, and opening are commonly used to describe the subtle sensations that her works evoke.
Jo has a background in photography, where her eye for composition and technical acuity led her to work on film and television sets as a unit stills photographer. Her photographs have been featured in Marie Claire magazine and formed the backbone of marketing campaigns for Australian artists and bands, and published in The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Vault and Island magazine.
