In my entire body of work, I think about the construct of time a lot and I try to find ways to depict aspects and ideas of time, timing or the passing of time. I also like my paintings to be quiet, in some way silent and like a frozen moment.
With this piece I started with an abstract painting. I wanted to create movement (of time) with paint and brushstrokes which stand in contrast to the figurative but blurry detail of black and white flowers on the top which represent stillness and the absence of any movement and change. In my imagination the piece translates the contrasting concepts of memory (in the past and not changeable) and the ongoing passing of time, which forever runs through our fingers.
