This painting is appropriately entitled since I spent the night awake completing it. I have been obsessed with these little vignettes in my neighborhood, and I cannot get these images out of my head and onto the canvas fast enough. I see them in their fleeting moments during the days and feel some sort of universal pull to record them. Its a strong enough of a pull to keep me awake at night as this one did last night. By 3am, I was mixing bourbon and coffee while debating my artistic lifestyle and practice as I sat in my studio chair exhausted, and that was when the title hit me. After all, what is art without a little sarcasm and struggle.
Overall, my intent is to visually define our temporary existence and the beauty in that impermanence using linear elements, bold color and brushstroke as my tools for conveyance. Nature is the convenient vehicle for representing that intent since humans continuously observe the everchanging constant of seasons which are the ultimate impermanence.

My story is easy enough to tell…I’ve been creating since childhood driven by a need for order amongst disorder, new harmonies amongst objects, visually seduced by repetition, pattern, and color and onward the dance goes. At some point around the age of 15 or 16 a rather observant art teacher stepped in and put me on the path from wayward youth to wayward artist. From there it’s been an epicurean vacation of creation like a Jacques Cousteau dive special into the deepest reaches of my mind. Sadly, no sharks. The discoveries are constant, the sun is always shining, and the ocean is always beautifully blue. The rest is nature.
My work is held in multiple corporate and private collections throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
About my work:
I am an explorer at heart possessed with a need to look beyond traditions in style and question the unknown. Because of this the works are seeded in process painting and material discovery. Elements of drawing, textural curiosities and color/form relationships combine to create a unique aesthetic in each work. Depending on what is going on in the world at the time there will also be elements of nature and/or humanity in my work that mix about with abstracted components to create a sort of historic bibliophile in the paint…essentially a moment in time that reflects for a lifetime.
