Another in the series from my last visit to Sans Souci on the lake. This spot was a fascinating discovery for me as the gardens, now wild, were obviously planted many, many years ago for a home and people now long gone. Of the home only vine covered remains of stone exist amidst this landscape, and as a huge fan of archeology I could not help but to wonder what happened to this family who lived here so many years ago. Who were they and where did they come from? How did they get here and why did they leave this place? What were their lives like back then? These questions continued to creep into my head during the entire painting process, yet, they did not interfere with the work itself. They actually made my process somewhat transcendental, a beautiful experience of paint amidst time past and present; a cathartic meditation of brushstoke and harmony of color in nature.

My story is easy enough to tell…I’ve been creating since childhood driven by a need for order amongst disorder, new harmonies amongst objects, visually seduced by repetition, pattern, and color and onward the dance goes. At some point around the age of 15 or 16 a rather observant art teacher stepped in and put me on the path from wayward youth to wayward artist. From there it’s been an epicurean vacation of creation like a Jacques Cousteau dive special into the deepest reaches of my mind. Sadly, no sharks. The discoveries are constant, the sun is always shining, and the ocean is always beautifully blue. The rest is nature.
My work is held in multiple corporate and private collections throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
About my work:
I am an explorer at heart possessed with a need to look beyond traditions in style and question the unknown. Because of this the works are seeded in process painting and material discovery. Elements of drawing, textural curiosities and color/form relationships combine to create a unique aesthetic in each work. Depending on what is going on in the world at the time there will also be elements of nature and/or humanity in my work that mix about with abstracted components to create a sort of historic bibliophile in the paint…essentially a moment in time that reflects for a lifetime.
