Artist Statement
This was my first painting completed since recovering from COVID. It had been a very difficult time with a ton of emotion running through me daily as I was in and out of the hospital and literally stuck in solitary confinement at home while the world moved along. I was unable to paint, let alone think clearly or breathe, but that did not abate the drive, the absolute wantonness and need to work. It was maddening to not be able to paint, and believe me I tried and failed every time! Again, MADDENING, but all that misspent emotion just released like a tornado as I worked through this one! The strength in this work not only lay in color, composition or texture. It is in the sheer power of emotion intuitively sewn into the fabric of this painting. This is based of photos from my summer trips to Saugatuck (on Michigan's west coast).
Enjoy the work and stay safe out there.

My story is easy enough to tell…I’ve been creating since childhood driven by a need for order amongst disorder, new harmonies amongst objects, visually seduced by repetition, pattern, and color and onward the dance goes. At some point around the age of 15 or 16 a rather observant art teacher stepped in and put me on the path from wayward youth to wayward artist. From there it’s been an epicurean vacation of creation like a Jacques Cousteau dive special into the deepest reaches of my mind. Sadly, no sharks. The discoveries are constant, the sun is always shining, and the ocean is always beautifully blue. The rest is nature.
My work is held in multiple corporate and private collections throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
About my work:
I am an explorer at heart possessed with a need to look beyond traditions in style and question the unknown. Because of this the works are seeded in process painting and material discovery. Elements of drawing, textural curiosities and color/form relationships combine to create a unique aesthetic in each work. Depending on what is going on in the world at the time there will also be elements of nature and/or humanity in my work that mix about with abstracted components to create a sort of historic bibliophile in the paint…essentially a moment in time that reflects for a lifetime.
