About the art
Artist statement
I'm so very excited about this work having spent the past 3 months working on it. I had a vision of what I wanted to see and accomplish with this work and was thinking a lot about the paintings of Alex Katz and David Hockney when executing this. The figure needed to be present, but flat, almost abstracted in its visual elements which would then contrast heavily against the head of flowers and vines. The colors were to be vibrant, espousing emotion and beauty, yet actively reacting with one another, pushing and pulling. Needless to say I've had a lot of sleepless nights over this one, and am thrilled to present it to this audience. I think Katz and Hockney would be pleased.
