Artist Statement

IconCaretDown

Striking black is offset with opulent orange and mouth-watering hot pink on an elegant hand-made wall sculpture covered a variety of different kinds of glass and golden mirror.
An undulating, unusual work thats shape was inspired by a scrunched piece of paper. An ancient and enduring art form now pays homage to a throwaway society.

Onyx was originally part of my Discarded Collection which explored transience through permanence. It is featured in my book ‘Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic’. A signed copy of the book will be included with the Certificate of Authenticity and details of NRAA registration (National Registry of Australian Artists).
Onyx has a hook on the back for immediate hanging.
It is signed and dated on the reverse.

Artist Profile

Hometown: Melbourne

Based in: Melbourne

"When the paint is dry my work is just beginning".

The desire to free paint and allow it independence is paramount in my art practice. My experiences of repeated international relocations feed into the way I approach my work. Breaking ties, rebuilding support systems as well as feelings of invisibility and instability are foremost considerations.

My artistic process is centered on the exclusive use of unsupported, dried paint, I create original paintings without a canvas or paper backing, only to deconstruct and remake them. Often drawing on textile, collage, and sculptural techniques, my core aim is to challenge expectations of what a painting is capable of being.

I hold a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth.
