"When you are aware of the time that is left, the emotions are charged, it follows no coherent thought process except to be vulnerable, to be present and immerse in the moment. “Seconds before parting” was done in a way that I wanted the work the extrude this quick fire, the furry of emotion, the vulnerability of this parting moment: By using only my palms, fingers and paint straight off the bottle, Giving myself timed five minutes slots thrice to complete the piece.
I felt, If I linger in long thoughts, walking back forth to check the piece as I would normally do, it would take me away from the emotions I wanted to convey." - Kamilka Perera
Based in: Colombo
Kamilka holds a Bachelors in Architecture from University of Moratuwa in 2009. In her paintings, she endeavors to convey the essence of varied inspirations she draws from sights and sounds of Srilanka, weaving into her abstracts a sense of individuality that is essentially hers. Not confined to one medium, she explores varied textures as she goes, true to the self-taught artist that she is.
From Landscapes to Line Drawings her work revolves free flowing strokes taking the realistic imagery, which the inspiration stems from, and transforming it to an abstract whole. Born in Colombo Sri Lanka, and a practicing Architect by Profession, Kamilka’s artistry is part and parcel of her being, from the Architect to the Artist, both sides merging and helping each other, uniquely called to create “The Painting Architect”.
