« In my paintings, I explore the complex facets of humankind, the highs and lows, light and shadows, beauty and distortion, love and hate. »
Katja Wittmer is an artist based in Ireland whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in the United States, Austria, China, Germany, and India. The central theme in her art is emotional liberation, as she is fascinated by the exploration of the "emotional abyss", discovering what hides under layers of repression. She employs bold colours and textures to provoke movement, elicit mysticism, and engage the viewer's subconscious. Katja Wittmer uses acrylics, sand, plaster and pastels and incorporates dripping paint, thick textures and multi-layered colours in her work. Her unique works of abstract expressionism challenge the boundaries of perception.
