Artist Statement
My work is a physical expression of my fascination with architecture, science, music, and most importantly, the human condition. I am curious about the biopic nature of our existence and my paintings contain strong emotional and visceral qualities which are guided by intuitive mark making. I work with various mediums such as acrylic paint, paper, pastels, collage and found objects and the combination of these materials creates an intense physical component to my work. Layering and composing work based on the different surface qualities allows me to capture the textures in a certain way that embodies several emotions and subjects. The goal is not to have an idea prior to starting, thus allowing accidental marks and compositions to reveal themselves in the final artwork much as how our own stories are an amalgamation of histories and personal experiences.
