Artist Statement
Bat Kites 3s is an abstraction of a part of another abstract image (Geometric 2021 - 219d2), and is meant to resemble an osian kite depicting a bird or bat. In fact when I first created the abstraction what came to mind immediately in a very visual memory was the kite that Major Shears (William Holden) gets terrified by, after escaping from the Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in film “The Bridge Over the River Kwai”. There is a whole series of Bat Kite images, each limited to 3 prints for each version. In this version (3s), 3 “kite” elements are used, though several other versions use only a single kite. In this version (3s), I have eliminated all detail in the background and removed almost all of the elements of the main image except for the kite elements to make a very simple graphic of 3 kites on an untextured solid colored background, purple in this caee
