A piece from the 'Ripples' abstract sculpture series by James Rowland made from Brazilian hard wood Jequitibá.
Scottish Artist and furniture Designer-Maker James Rowland of Knót Artesanal is treading a new path in search of organic forms inspired by the abundant nature found in his local surroundings on Brazil's Atlantic coast.
James's work mixes tones, forms and volumes to instill a sense of movement, creating pieces in which each hand-carved curve plays with light and shadow to reflect the natural beauty of the wood.
The contemporary artworks display the similar minimalist characteristics seen in his furniture designs mixing organic and modern through clean lines and delicate curves.

Knót (ki-no-ti) is the meeting of design, beauty and simplicity hand crafted in solid hard-woods.
It was formed between Brazilian architect Renata Gutierrez (nó) and British woodworker James Rowland (knot), both passionate about the forms, tones and textures of wood.
Our focus is on simple lines, quality materials and natural finishes. All of our pieces are handmade using traditional woodworking methods to create timeless contemporary pieces that not only need to be seen but also felt.
This takes place in Paraty Brazil, an historical town nestled between the sea and the mountainous rainforest.
