Objects in Koo Seong-youn’s photography are made up of materials that eventually disappear after being photographed. The artist does not go after an already existing object, but personally create her own unique objects for her photography. While most photographers roam around the world in search of possible objects for their photography, she enjoys making her own one-of-a-kind flowers made up of popcorns or candies. Fake flowers made with popcorns or candies are disguised as real in her photographs. However, the objects eventually go out of existence as they are made with materials that are bound to disappear with passage of time. The flowers are created exclusively for the photograph so they do not exist outside of her photographs. Furthermore, they must be photographed because the objects go extinct soon after they are created. Her photography works are the only proof that those flowers existed. In her more recent work, the artist opted out of candies and created sugar vases with splendid decorations, which she also photographed. While she was still shooting, sugar melted and its melted liquid version streamed down the floor.
