Meant to be by Lana Alsamir-Diamond - is a result of a continuous interest in themes of closeness, a minimalist abstract.
Ink on Paper has a special quality, the way the black ink makes its mark on paper is very unique. My ink on paper works are extremely minimal yet have a strong presence, I could live surrounded by my ink pieces forever and never tire of their presence. They look better together, hung side by side.
Moons are a constant in my work, if you have ever watched the moon as religiously as I do, you would know that the moon has so many faces, my fascination started when I used it as a constant presence in my more figurative works, and I slowly became fascinated by the shape and the possibilities it offered to my work, it grew from a representation of the moon to a recurring motif.

Ink on hand made cotton paper, with deckled edges in natural colour
Based in: Sydney
A Sydney based artist who made her way here via product design. Alsamir-Diamond's work is graphic minimal yet bold, work that is very personal and reminiscent of the Artist’s life, packed with cultural influences and references.
Silhouettes and composition are the primary interest of the work, a sensitivity for negative space creates the perfect groundwork for colour, which is almost a distraction to the artist but a very welcome one.
"I feel my work is very intuitive and involves a fair amount of restraint, for that reason I sometimes find myself producing work that involves more figurative elements, it is almost an instinctive need to be in control, I love the dialogue that two of my pieces can have in the same space. "
Medium and process
Lana loves working on paper, she feels paper is unforgiving and translates her vision beautifully.
The artist uses hand made, 100% cotton rag paper in a natural colour with deckled edges.
Paints with Japanese ink, gouache, and only the finest acrylic paints.
Most of the work is on natural coloured paper, the colour is a very light off-white, it may sometimes photograph at different shades.
