Artist Statement

IconCaretDown

Poppy Moon — is part of series of Moon & Bud.
An inspiration from Li Bai's poem: The Night Thought — The year of 2020 that brought us back the meaning of home.
The people that we missed, just like Li Bai's poem, I am homesick being 6,460 miles away from home — I am looking at the full-moon where my family saw only sixteen hours ago.

Those we feel apart, isolated, may this mixed complex feeling we all face can be contained within the form of a vase.

Artist Profile

Born: 1990

Hometown: Hong Kong

Based in: Seattle, WA

Ling Chun was born in Hong Kong, a society built upon a hybrid system of western and eastern. A foreign exchange program brought her to the United States at the age of seventeen. She then earned her BFA in visual communication design and ceramics from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012 and her MFA in ceramics from Rhode Island School of Design in 2016. Chun has been focusing on the physicality of materials separating from their stereotype and cultural reference by questioning their authentic use and redefining them in her language.

Chun has been an artist in residence 2012-13 at Seward Park Clay Studio in Seattle, Washington, a summer artist resident at Arquetopia in Puebla, Mexico in 2015, and c.r.e.t.a.rome, Italy in 2016. She is also a long-term resident 2016-18 of Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, Montana. She is now a current long-term resident 2018-20 of Pottery Northwest, Seattle, Washington, where she continues her studio practice. She is the recipient of the 2018-2019 Artbridge Fellowship from Pratt Fine Arts Center & the recipient of the NCECA emerging artist award in 2020.

她也是Pratt Fine Arts 2018 -2019Artbridge & the NCECA Emerging Artist 獎學金的得獎者。
