Shafarin works of abstraction consist of a variation; the exploration of minimalism, lyrical, symbolism and colour fields. When one feast his or her eyes on the paintings, it communicates poetic and emotional contents that stir the psyche of viewers. It has an important content or message on the philosophy and spirituality of life, rather than a mere colour splash of expression. The artist is concerned with the exploration of ideas and the states of mind challenging the hollow dogma of art. Yet the representation of the aesthetics of design, colours, forms and composition is never neglected in fact, they are enhanced further with the content filled paintings produced.
The colours and box nested within box may seem simple enough for many people to paint. Yet if one understands the concept behind it, the reason for its proportion and composition or even the colour choices produces a very different effect visually. After various exposure to architecture design by my partner who always quotes “Less is more and God is in the details - famously quoted by Mies Van de Rohe”, I can understand the concept clearer. Simplicity, be it in spatial design or a visual painting, seems to absorb the viewer more. Minimalism or minimal art seems to project a meditative profundity, a resonance of divinity in human consciousness. Yet it may take years for an artist to arrive to this simplicity that is so intent filled.

A self taught artist, Mohd Shafarin Ghani is a mid career Malaysian artist and music composer who is known for his highly coloured vibrations of majestic expressionist waves of his Seascape series that are inspired by the soul of the Romantic Era. His Box series are a pictorial reflection on existential concerns with very minimal abstract composition, where tension and depth perceptions interplay.
Shafarin Ghani proves to be a notable abstract expressionist artist where many have interestingly remarked that his brilliant play with colours is so akin to sounds of orchestral play in the background. His passion and study in classical music is so clear, vividly expressed in his paintings through his colour play and expressive brush strokes.
