I started this apocalyptic imagining from a base of pulverized iron oxide—heavy, black, and magnetic. It created the perfect sci-fi landscape for these unkillable plastic foam discoballs. This piece is me working through environmental crises and our addiction to plastics in a way that feels new and personal. It's a kind of future-ecology, a dark imagining of what could be, if we continue down this path forever...

"Mackenzie Perras is a contemporary painter. Centered around material experiment and critical wit, his work challenges our assumptions about the nature of the world around us and all its phenomena. Raised in the fold of Tibetan Buddhism its familiar themes of time & natural cycles; growth, decay and transformation permeate his work. With clear influences in geology, archeology, material sciences, advertising, and material culture, his aesthetic leans to the minimal while often asking us to look at the nature of his materials themselves. As viewers we walk away from his work with the impression that every material chosen has a unique spirit, and that each of his paintings is a dialogue with those constituent substances themselves."
