Lives and Works: Kuala Lumpur
Born in 1984, Maheswary’s affinity towards arts was since very young. She was actively involved in art groups during her primary education.
She is a firm believer of balance in life. Brought up by parents who emphasize on excelling in academics, she pursued her studies in BSc (hons) Industrial Chemistry. While in her final year of her degree completion, her interest in research field developed and she furthered her studies in MSc in Materials Chemistry majoring in Photocatalysis.
Having completed her Masters, she started her career as a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Electronics at The University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus in the year 2011. Later in 2012, she joined a private industrial sector as a Research Chemist.
Though actively involved in research, her passion in art and her curiosity on the essence of life through art was growing even deeper. That is what made her to finally joined art classes under Artist Jeganathan. His philosophies in art, as well as the different approach in teaching art from scientific perspectives opened a new direction for her in art. Realising that she has finally found her destination, she made a bold decision by giving up her position as a Research Chemist to step into the world of arts seriously.
She started her apprenticeship in 2013 through a ‘gurukulam’ system under Artist Jeganathan, who pioneered the system in Malaysia. It is an ancient system where learning is through absorbing knowledge and skills through sound vibration. Here, her involvement in art is greater as she has to play multiple roles to become a wholesome artist. She not only paints but is also learning to play ‘veenai’, an ancient Indian music instrument, sound appreciation, video art and also exposed to performing arts by Artist Jeganathan.
She has exhibited her works in Symbols House of Natural Art Studio, Indian Cultural Centre, Sutra Gallery, University of Malaya Art Gallery, Black Box, Publika and Museum of Asian Art in University of Malaya. In 2015, she assisted Artist Jeganathan who was invited as a scenographer in Sprites Creative and Art Biennale in Bali, Indonesia. She was also actively assisting Artist Jeganathan in his Art and Sound Therapy sessions.
Currently she is recording Artist Jeganathan’s journey who is travelling and along the journey meeting various group of people to spread the importance of art and culture to elevate their self confidence. She is also focusing on life sketchings on portraiture of people that she meet in the journey.
