Based on the poem, ‘A Grumbling Hive’ by Bernard Manderville which compares the collapse of a bee hive to a modern capitalistic economy which abandons desire in return for living with honesty and virtue (private vices, public benefits). The artwork takes a similar yet distant stance from the poem in which the dependability of consumerism for a modern economic model is depicted.
