Artist Statement
The artwork is an expression of my heritage and the increasingly East-West world in which we live. One side uses Asian techniques and materials while the other uses Western techniques and materials. Both are expressing the same message, but using different language.

Based in: San Francisco
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Maria Lobo’s art training took her to Italy, Spain, Canada and California. Studying at the University of Santa Clara and the San Francisco Art Institute, she gained degrees in Fine Art and Painting in 1985. Maria returned to Hong Kong in 1994, having been part of the San Francisco Hunters Point Artists’ Community. In 2003 she relocated to Vancouver, Canada and she currently lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
As a result of her international perspective, Maria’s work is a balance of East and West. She combines numerous techniques and materials to create mixed media works, utilizing, patterns and symbols from a multicultural perspective.
Maria exhibits her work internationally. In addition to traditional gallery shows, she frequently works on site-specific commissioned pieces for collectors, designers, corporations, residential and hospitality clients.
