Artist Statement
Series: BACK TO ANTIQUITY
Far from any actionist movements, Marie believes that the only way to change the world is to address one soul at a time. The more turbulent the times, the subtler become her colour and brushwork choices in the attempt to offer a visual refuge where the viewer’s sensibilities could flourish.
Back to Antiquity started with the idea of painting pure emotions with pure pigments. To create this series, Marie reclaimed important Renaissance and Neoclassical imagery which has greatly influenced her artistically and emotionally.
From sharp chromatic contrast to imperceptible pearl-like nuances, the colour is used to reconnect with own emotions and reconsider the meaning of touch, connection and belonging.

Based in: Sydney
Marie Pol learnt oil painting through years of art tuition from established Russian masters, followed by insatiable self-education and experimentation. In 2018-2019, she has completed a fine art program with the Imperial Academy of Arts (St.Petersburg, Russia). For the past few years, she has been living and creating in Singapore and Sydney inevitably adding some tropical boldness to her otherwise perfectly European tunes.
