From my Mannahatta series....Digitally manipulated photography, printed on cotton, hand quilted, gallery-wrapped on stretched canvas, ready to hang. Images in this series are derived from architectural and other man-made structures built during different periods in the history of Manhattan Island. The concentric circles of the hand quilting represents our brief time on the landscape which remains when we are gone.
Hometown: New York
Based in: New York City
As a life-long New Yorker, Marilyn Henrion’s aesthetic vision has always been deeply rooted in the urban geometry of her surroundings, whether at home or abroad. This is true of her early pieced geometric abstractions as well as her more recent mixed media works. In her textile-based works she synthesizes and transforms the ‘facts” of the material world to reflect her experience of a particular place, much as Edward Hopper did in the 20th century.
Henrion’s work is included in museum, corporate, government, and private collections throughout the world. She is also represented in the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Art.
