About the art
The works from the Star Cloud series focus on star cloud regions cropped from along the Milky Way arm, using the European Southern Observatory’s panorama as a focal map. The works are painted in a realistic style, producing a natural representation of the cosmos, however due to the nature of space, the result can often seem free of reference and subject matter, blurring the line between representation and abstraction.
This work was exhibited alongside other works in the series in Batty's solo show Celestial Light (2021).
This piece focuses on a region in the constellation Aquila, the eagle, representing the bird that carried Zeus's thunderbolts in Ancient Greek mythology.
