About the art
Artist statement
Everyone's favourite ex-planet, Pluto, painted with oils on canvas.
The image used to paint this was taken by NASA's New Horizons on July 14, 2015. The striking features on Pluto are clearly visible, including the bright expanse of Pluto's icy, nitrogen-and-methane rich "heart", Sputnik Planitia.
In August 2006 the International Astronomical Union (IAU) downgraded the status of Pluto to that of “dwarf planet.” Pluto is smaller than our moon.
