Artist Statement
Curtains is a 50" x 40" signed original acrylic painting by Marlene Struss on a wired cradled wood panel with lightly varnished sides to complement the painting. The dominant colors are rusty orange, brownish orange, green, and yellow. The style is biomorphic abstract expressionism. Curtains depicts an abstracted version of graceful tree trunks. The transparent quality of the painting suggests the history and inner life of trees, and the title points to not only the design of the trees but comments on the disappearance of or "curtains" for old growth trees.
