Artist Profile
Born: 1958
Hometown: Winschoten
Based in: Winschoten
Born 1958 in Amsterdam.
Marten lives in Winschoten in the very north-east of The Netherlands. (You can call it "the flattest part of the country")After several years of beeing a musician and working with conceptual projects Marten started painting. Living in "the flattest part of the country" Marten found his inspiration in the enormous dimensions of the landscape. His work is an expression of the silence you can experience standing in the middle of nowhere.
"When you are standing in the 'nothing', with the horizon 360 degrees around you, then you are connected with nature, the place you are. Then the silence is not in your ears only."
Marten is a member of the Dutch Artist Society "De Ploeg" and has a formed a artist collective called "Noordgangers".
