The pictures in Martin Ecker's INFORMEL series offer an exciting journey through polymorphous colour landscapes. The eye glides at first, then feels its way over hills and ridges, hesitates at cliffs, glides down into valleys, wanders further from one colour region to another, finds a foothold at another colour rock. Only one step back saves the viewer from falling into the next depth. Now he can survey the whole field until he loses himself again in the colour traces and furrows. On the discovery route, a face, leaves in the autumn forest, a sea, a bird or even a jellyfish takes shape for a brief moment. Until curiosity has carried you on and the find sinks back into colour reliefs that resist all attempts at order and follow their own rules. And all the time, the fingers have to be kept in check so that they don't catch up with explorations on their own ... . .
