COURSE OF A HAPPY COINCIDENCE
MYZEL
In the expansive photographs of MYZEL, the artist Martin Ecker investigates the consciousness of mushrooms as the counterpart of the human mind and attempts to place them in a creative spectrum of consciousness.
Following different routes, the works collapse into matter and form. Organism meets dead matter. The photo negatives, infected by the fungus, mutate. A double helix seems to emerge under simple, stress-producing states of aggregation such as heat, cold and humidity. Seemingly deliberate actions are taken that allow the photographs to step into the beyond of the figurative. Into a dialogue in which the enigmatic duplicity of meaning and materiality, of figuration and abstraction is negotiated. A form of consciousness whose proof is expressed in reactivity and sensitivity, which can be found in the works.
