COURSE OF A HAPPY COINCIDENCE
In the expansive photographs of MYZEL, the artist Martin Ecker investigates the consciousness of mushrooms as the counterpart of the human mind and attempts to place them in a creative spectrum of consciousness.
Following different routes, the works collapse into matter and form. Organism meets dead matter. The photo negatives, infected by the fungus, mutate. A double helix seems to emerge under simple, stress-producing states of aggregation such as heat, cold and humidity. Into a dialogue in which the enigmatic duplicity of meaning and materiality, of figuration and abstraction is negotiated. A form of consciousness whose proof is expressed in reactivity and sensitivity, which can be found in the works.
