Maryam latest collection, “Fly Me Away,” is about love, family and isolation during a global pandemic. Feathered brush strokes emerge from the canvas as birds, representing her migration to Canada and a longing to see her family once more. The birds, similar in shape to the first letter of the Farsi alphabet, are a nod to her native tongue. Mixed layers, a strong base and lighter overlays reflect her personal relationships. As the pandemic prolonged, the collection evolved and the birds transformed into feathers, floating through air with no purpose or place to settle. The transparent overlay of glaze represents her family’s bond and the value she places on their relationship.
