Artist statement
Almost at the end of summer, late August I was in Royan, France with my family for the weekend. I saw this carousel, I think it's a sort of evergreen of childhood, we all want to get into a ride at the amusement park, find some adventure, thrill, fun, it reminded me of childhood. The people in the image get lost into the night, only the enthusiastic child entering the carousel is more visible. I wanted to give the painting a cinematic look, that's why I choose the format and the light, I love using chiaroscuro in paintings, it gives a lot of depth and contrast. The aim was to make the viewer feel that they are there, closing in on the carousel as if they can sit on the bench upfront.
The sides of the painting are painted black. Can be hung without a frame.
