Artist Statement
The body is our mother tongue. To feel good in our skin we need to listen to it, to read it.
Sitting on the floor with calligraphy brushes, ink and paper I paint movement by imagining/remembering what it feels like.
Skin has been shown in the solo exhibition 'Pedestrians' in Brussels (2020).

Artist Profile
Born: 1986
Hometown: Bietigheim-Bissingen
Based in: Brussels, Belgium
Mimi Kunz was born in Germany and now lives in Brussels, Belgium. Her work explores the body as our mother tongue and movement as a universal expression of liveliness. Her fascination with body language grew during a year spent working in Thailand where she was an an-alphabet at first, and fascinated by how much we can know and say by observing how people hold themselves, by our gestures and postures. She studied Translation, Sociolinguistics, Literature and Art History at Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, Germany, and later Painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe. Her work has been shaped by artist residencies and exhibitions in South Korea and Vietnam.
