MiYoung was born in Busan, South Korea. She immigrated to the United States alone as a child. She grew up in small towns outside of Washington DC, later moved to New York to attend Parsons School of Design where she received her BFA in Fine Arts. She received her MFA in Sculpture from Yale School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut. Her sculptural works are visual explorations of the everyday. Coming to the United States as a child and not knowing the English language, visual language became her major tool to understand American culture. Having prioritized visual language, she saw things in a way they were not always intended. These childhood perceptions are instilled in her work today. She uses common materials to translate her observations and transform their material function to create a new interpretation of her daily experience. MiYoung currently lives and works in New York.
