Artist Statement
In my images, I use botanicals as metaphors for personal experiences: vanitas compositions that reference the fleeting nature of time, toxic plants that stand in for poisonous relationships and glorious blooms that reflect moments of exquisite joy.

Wood earned an undergraduate degree in Photojournalism from TCU in Ft Worth, Texas and then went on to get a Master’s in Art History focusing on photography from SMU in Dallas. She settled in Des Moines after moving from Dallas to Vienna, Austria and Vancouver, Canada. She manages commercial photo shoots for Better Homes and Gardens products. She has had solo exhibitions at the Sioux City Art Center, and the Dubuque Museum of Art (both in Iowa.). Wood has been included in exhibitions at the Freeport (Illinois) Art Museum, the Midwest Center for Photography (Wichita, Kansas), Olson Larsen Gallery (Des Moines, Iowa), and the Kansas City Society of Contemporary Photography. Wood was recently the subject of a cover article in the July / August 2017 issue of DSM Magazine and was an Iowa Arts Council Fellow in 2018.
