Artist Statement
Ink drawing with a collage of graffiti as a base.
The collage paper has been varnished, dried once, and then peeled off, leaving it torn in places. So the volume of the graffiti is uneven, giving the work a sense of depth when viewed from a distance, and the lines seem to float.
The inspiration for the work came from stickers haphazardly placed on the street, and the layers of peeled and smudged stickers give the work a rough look.
The layer of varnish applied to the work evokes the stains of aging from exposure to the open air.
The motif painted in the center of the work represents a surveillance camera as an eyeball.
It represents young people engaging in graffiti with a sense of immorality and the society that monitors them.
