Based in: Tokyo
NIEDA Noriko was born in 1986 in Saga Prefecture, Japan. In 2011, she graduated from University of SAGA Craft Art. As a Fine artist she was also interested in literature, especially in the areas of history and philosophy. Nieda works with traditional oil-painting techniques to create an unusual world inhabited by strange tiny microbes characters. She uses vivid colors in her works that dazzles and gives luster to the surface and the characters in her artworks implicate how primordial human beings are. They are painted to be slightly comical and nihilistic, the artworks titles also tend to be poetic or are of philosophical nature reflecting Nieda’s admiration of the literature and philosophy teachings. After her graduation in 2009, she participated in group exhibitions in Tokyo and in 2010 she won The 45th Showa-Kai Prize.
