Artist Statement

IconCaretDown

This series of work was inspired during lockdown when I had time to consider the elements of love and the feelings they evoke. I painted these freely and responded to where my thoughts took me. I hope that the viewer will find a sense of peace and harmony when looking at this piece. This painting will look great on its own, but will also work well grouped with others in the set to create a dynamic wall covering.

Artist Profile

Born: 1970

Hometown: London

Based in: London

I have enjoyed a long and successful career as a graphic designer, but have always had a passion for art and image making. My creative process spans both disciplines and, alongside my digital work, I now paint abstract landscapes.

My approach to painting echoes the principles of successful graphics – visual storytelling through symmetry, colour, balance, and the spaces in between. I create abstract paintings based on the landscape around me. Painting in oils, I layer and blend various shapes of colours to recreate an emotional response to the starting image of a place I have been. I love the push and pull of oil paints and the process of an image evolving on the canvas. Sometimes the outcome is expected. Other times it’s not.

Alongside my paintings, I create complementary digital prints that are at once a reflection of the original piece – and a new perspective on it. After photographing a section of a finished painting, I reimagine the work in Photoshop; blending, blurring and rebalancing to create a run of limited-edition prints.
