Artist Statement

I love the sculptural friezes that I usually find in ancient art museums, usually pieces recovered and restored from the ruins of monuments of ancient civilisations.
I usually pay a lot of attention to the expressions that the figures have, and I usually find emotions of all kinds, love, fear, anger, sadness, etc.
I am always tempted to take one of these pieces of frieze home with me, as they have so much life, not only because of their cultural and historical significance but also because of the journey the pieces have had, with the consequent wear and tear they have suffered from the time they were created until the present day.

Since I can't take historical friezes home with me, I decided to create my own!

"Il piccolo frecio delle emozioni" features different characters expressing all kinds of emotions. From joy, serenity, sadness, ecstasy, anxiety...

Artist Profile

Hometown: San Sebastian

Based in: San Sebastian

Ever since I was a child my shyness has led me to observe people. I noticed their looks, their body postures, the way they spoke, the way they related to each other. This observation of others allowed me to get to know others as well as myself. As emotions are universal, the emotion that I saw in others I saw in myself too, and the union that I felt with others made me feel good.
I realised that most of us go through life hiding our true essence, our emotions. But there is always a moment when that comes out. Sometimes a person's emotion is felt in a second, in a gesture, in a look, and that second is what I want to capture in my works of art, so that second of authenticity is eternal.

There is also a noticeable influence of ancient art in my works because I like to feel that there were people centuries ago who captured the same universal emotions that I want to express today, teaching me that emotions are not only universal, but also timeless.

I do both painting and sculpture. I always give a deteriorated aspect to my works, wear and tear, breaks generated by myself, wanting to express the passage of time that I mentioned before.
