Artist Statement
Iris oil painting.
I used brushes and a palette knife to create this painting. For the background, I chose a gray color with many shades. In this background, the iris flower stands out for its texture and color.
I was delighted with this flower for its sophistication and grace. I painted two paintings with irises at the same time: "Tenderness" and "Grace". The second painting "Grace" can be viewed in my gallery.
For this painting I used a plywood panel. This solid foundation allowed me to create a distinctive texture that accentuated the materiality of the flower and it's colorful background.
I love working with a palette knife. It allows me to bring spontaneity, energy and mystery to my paintings. The alternation of brush strokes and palette knife makes the picture emotionally rich.
