Millions of years ago, today's New Zealand separated from the supercontinent Gondwana. Since then, a flora and fauna that is independent of external ecosystems has been able to develop in New Zealand. Today, the country on the edge of the world inspires with its wild coasts, endless land, huge primeval forests, glaciers and volcanoes and a mostly endemic flora. The Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Forest is one of the last prehistoric rainforests in the world. The Urewera National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the largest rainforest area.

For over 20 years, Swiss fine art landscape photographer Oliver Wehrli has combined photography and nature to create images that speak a silent, mystical, haunting language. He prefers realistic depictions that appear natural and unobtrusive, depicting landscapes unaltered to remind viewers of the beauty of nature without detours via abstraction.
