Paul has won two awards for this print:

2nd Place (Nature), International Photography Awards, New York, USA

Silver Award (Visual Arts), British Institute of Professional Photography Awards, UK

This Limited Edition photography print of a white ranunculus flower is made using archival pigment inks and archival fine-art paper. It is signed and numbered by Paul Coghlin on the front, and supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.

This print is part of Paul's CHROMA floral series. He has chosen the subjects for this joyful floral art series for their exquisite detail, delicate colour and natural symmetry. Many of the flowers were grown by him in his garden and others have been grown at a nearby flower farm, just a few miles from Paul’s studio. Each of the floral art prints have one dominant hue and a physical background based on a specific colour selected from the petals of each individual flower, which are designed to complement each other perfectly. Paul explores texture throughout much of his work and the fine detail he captures is a recognised component of his photographic style.

“I have tried to convey that emotional impact we feel, when we see something beautiful for the first time”, says Paul. “When I see a stunning flower, I notice its perfume, fine texture and the intricacy of its structure. It's a fleeting first impression, which is a challenge to capture in a photograph, and I work to convey this emotion”.

Artist Profile

Born: 1967

Hometown: Sudbury

Based in: Suffolk, UK

“Throughout all of my projects, I’ve worked to capture not just a subject’s form, but also a visual and perhaps painterly representation of the fleeting emotion I felt at the time the images were captured; encouraging the viewer to experience at least part of that same intangible sensation when they study my work”.

"There is also an intriguing aspect to looking beyond the obvious; to capture photographically detail, shape and pattern hidden in plain sight, and to explore its symmetry, light and texture. My images often feature and are inspired by the natural world, which I feel a strong connection to; something which was instilled in me at a young age from my childhood in the beautiful New Forest region of southern England”.

British fine-art photographer Paul Coghlin was born in London in 1967, and is currently based in Suffolk in eastern England.

Paul received his Fellowship from the British Institute for Professional Photography (BIPP) in 2012, attained for “distinguished and exceptional ability and creativity”.

Among a number of prestigious national and international awards, including the International Photography Awards in New York, he has twice received the Professional Photographer of the Year award from the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) - in 2010 and again in 2013 - and the Peter Grugeon Award (ABIPP) in 2010.
His images have appeared regularly in publications and international exhibitions, including at AIPAD in New York and the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in London.

In addition to his photographic qualifications, Paul also holds a BSc (Hons) Degree in Environmental Science from Plymouth University (1993) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing (Earth imaging/Photogrammetry) from University College London (1997).

Paul’s work is held in private collections around the world.
