Artist Statement
A highly textured, 3 dimensional, abstract aerial view of the Great Barrier Reef.
Detailed with top quality intense pigmented colored inks for maximum vibrancy and quality. Signature is on the side of the painting.
This work represents the effects of reactions between mixed mediums. The power of the chemistry between these pigments carried by different mediums, attracting or repelling each other resulting in ocean and reef like formations. Petra rarely follows conventional art methods and has developed a technique of her own. In addition to paint brushes she uses her hands, air guns, rods, blow torch, and gravity. Typically working in large formats, she “sculpts” her paintings, starting with a board upon which she layers various materials.
Inspired by the waters of the Great Barrier Reef, very close to where she is lucky enough to live. The best way to understand this piece is through the video within the images.
