Artist Statement

Poggio Di Poggio is a Franco-Belgian artist of Italian origin. He spends his time between his studios in Bruges (Belgium) and Sanremo (Italy).
As a former Zen and Theravada Buddhist monk, he describes his art as "spiritual and contemporary". His work is a permanent experimentation based on the practice of meditation which allows to unite the body and the spirit in order to connect to oneself and to the world. “Through my work I try to express the spiritual nature of life and of the universe.”
Concentration on the breath and on the body leads to a state of mindfulness. This state allows an access to the creative process based on the almost infinite repetition of the same gesture. This results in superimposed layers of paint on the canvas or multiple lines drawn freehand on the paper.
This creative process makes the artworks of Poggio Di Poggio unique, beautiful and fascinating. They are both aesthetic and meditative. They captivate the eye, call for introspection and meditation. They also offer a perspective and a vision on a positive and soothing world without being naive, transcribing the tensions and the dark areas of life and the universe.
