Artist Statement

IconCaretDown

My artistic inspiration has its origin in the Desert, a mystical space where I feel a direct connection with the Universe; this is the epicenter of my work.
The flow of energy from the Universe shapes our human behavior.

The basic essence of my iconography is the dynamic expression of energy: movement, gravitation, energies colliding, the cycles of time, and the entropy in space.

My artistic goal is to reveal these elements with symbolic interpretations that express the architecture of space; my work synthesizes and expresses the analysis and empirical science of energies, questioning the destiny of humanity in the Universe, and therefore depending on the cosmos in the course of time.

The theory of our existence, and the concept of time and non-existent time, is expressed with movements, traces, geometric connections and color shapes; this interpretation is the basis of the physical and metaphysical, human cycles, the subconscious of life towards the Universe.
I define this concept as the ARCHITECTURE OF THE UNIVERSE.

Artist Profile

Born: 1959

Hometown: Tarragona

Based in: Los Angeles

Born in Tarragona, Spain. (Catalonia region) Self Taught. Living and working in Los Angeles, CA. USA. Quim Bové is a Catalan artist known for his symbolic, abstract paintings executed through his dynamic brush strokes reflected across his collections. Much of Quim’s early influence came from compatriot painters like Dali, Miro, Picasso and Tapies; however, the interest in abstraction lead him to connect with the American Abstract expressionist movement as well.

Quim took a stance against what he believed to be a rigid academic system of the arts and therefore began his self taught training as a painter in 1978. Quim thought his inspiration and creativity could not be corrupted with others criteria or academic rules; he kept this mentality after his earlier academic experience. Despite his position towards academia, he had a rigorous method derived from Master Painter’s manifestos and techniques. The pivotal point in his career that changed the philosophy of his artwork and also his technique happened when he moved to what he claimed to be a place of great mystical power and energy, the Sonoran desert in Arizona, USA. This important event brought about the beginning of his inspiration behind the relationship of beings, the energies that surround them, and the connection to the metaphysical forces of the universe; therefore, constituting his symbolic abstract signature style.

Quim Bové participated in over thirty solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions. In 1995 he founded a conceptual art group “Andorran Currency” which at the time depicted the country’s political landscape. Currently living and working in Los Angeles, CA.,
He exhibited his works in multiple international gallery venues and collected in private and public collections.
