Artist Profile

Born: 1964

Hometown: London

Based in: London

I'm Rachel, a visual artist and photographer based in London, UK. I grew up in France and developed a photography practice from a young age. I’m passionate about female empowerment and the representation of women in society.

I create artwork that shakes up the convention of what being a woman is and what it meant across time. My characters are movers and shakers. They always find a way not to follow the established order. Even if it's only by the flutter of an eyelash, there is always a lot going on. I love nothing more than challenge the established order and conventions.

As a photographer and a creative, I can never lay my camera down. I see the world through a lens and as scenes out of a movie set. There are some who might say I'm obsessed. But after two years of being confined and not being able to travel, I'm more than happy to travel again and wander with my cameras.

If I call myself a contemporary feminist artist, I also love to create images under the influence of movies, across a city, telling a visual story of a woman enjoying her freedom and photographing land and urban scapes like out of a Wim Wenders film, for these type of images I love to use my analogue medium format cameras.
