Artist Profile
Born: 1992
Hometown: Singapore
Based in: Singapore
Narrative-driven, Rachel’s works revolve around themes of childhood such as daydreaming, memories, isolation, reflection and growth. Her watercolour style creates a dreamy and quiet atmosphere, like looking through a fog or a hazed memory of a dream. Symbols of comfort such as umbrellas, fluffy clouds and blankets are often woven into her stories, while nostalgic memories are encased within the painting’s inhabitants that hover between the past and present. Her works are bittersweet, slightly child-like and somewhat hopeful.
Rachel is a Singaporean artist who holds a degree in Visual Arts (New Zealand) and a degree in Psychology and Sociology (New York). Rachel has taught painting workshops in Singapore and overseas, ranging from private workshops to large painting demonstrations for hundreds of art enthusiasts. Her work has been shown regularly in solo and group exhibitions at art galleries in New Zealand, and shortlisted for prestigious NZ national art awards. In 2015 and 2017 she was the winner of the City college art award, held by Gallery De Novo in NZ. Her work has been featured in University magazines and she has sold work to art collectors in Israel, China, Belgium, Hong Kong and Germany.
